Such a strange thing, a key. I was walking up to my apartment the other day with mine in hand, and I was thinking about how fraught they are with history and mysticism for such an everyday object. Our security depends on the relatively low-tech, yet painstaking handiwork of those unsung engineers behind the manufacture of such ingenious items.
I mean, what kind of mind fashions the idea of a key in the first place? Using machinery and cleverness to outwit would-be intruders, rather than the brute strength of a heavily bolted door? Certainly the kind of mind we need more of today, that’s for sure.
